Zamyn adopts an unconventional approach to tackling questions of political and social change in relation to ‘developing’ countries. Rather than starting with an academic analysis or position paper, it collaborates with contemporary visual artists, writers and psychoanalysts to produce works that respond to Zamyn’s programmes. The works - which could be films, installations, texts or conversations - become the springboard for discussion, debate and a variety of further activities and projects. Shifting the starting point in this way allows new perspectives to emerge, as the works present the initial question differently. Avoiding stereotyped and reductive analyses, Zamyn thus tries to focus on the unconscious and hidden side of political and social processes: the Other perspective.
